Overview

The construction industry exerts a direct and significant influence on economic growth, environmental protection, and social development. The built environment worldwide is striving for a smart, sustainable and resilient future. Over the past decades, the global construction sector has confronted persistent challenges including housing shortages, low productivity and labour constraints. Modular construction (MC), as an innovative approach, has been promoted and adopted in many countries such as US, UK, Canada, Germany, Australia, Singapore, and China. To date, many high-rise modular buildings have been completed worldwide, with both steel and concrete modular buildings reaching heights of over 50 storeys. In Hong Kong, modular integrated construction (MiC) has been adopted in delivering more than 150 building projects since 2017, covering various types of development in both public and private sectors. MC has demonstrated substantial advantages in productivity, quality and safety, with rapid development.

A flagship conference, the International Conference on Modular Construction 2026 (ICMC 2026) will be held on 21 November 2026 in Hong Kong. ICMC 2026 aims to provide an international platform for leaders, professionals and academics from all over the world to exchange state-of-the-art research, innovative practices and technologies, and forward-thinking ideas on MC that significantly contribute to the evolution of construction technologies and sustainable practices. The conference will cover a wide range of research fields in the application of MC to building construction and infrastructure development.

The conference organisers, the International Association for Modular Construction (IAMC) and The University of Hong Kong (HKU), aspire to drive knowledge creation and dissemination, champion technology breakthrough, and facilitate industry application of MC approach. Through this conference, participants will have the opportunity to engage with leading international experts from government, industry and academia, share cutting-edge research findings, exchange insights and practical solutions, as well as cultivate collaborations.
